Frequently Asked Questions
What is independent asset management? Chevron-down
A specialised external asset manager manages the client portfolio without being tied to specific products or banks. In contrast to conventional banks or financial institutions, which often have to promote their own products, independent asset managers focus on the individual financial situation of their clients. Tareno employees work independently of banks and have access to a wider range of investment options.
What distinguishes Tareno from other asset managers? Chevron-down
- As an independent asset management company, we differentiate ourselves:
- Six awards from BILANZ as best Swiss asset manager in 2000, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025
- Favourable bank fees: Thanks to our size, our customers benefit from favourable conditions with one of 13 custodian banks. More information on this in our financial guide: https://tareno.ch/finanz-ratgeber/nur-die-nettoperformance-zaehlt/
- Our holistic and long-term wealth planning, which is tailored entirely to you
- Transparent advice without retrocessions or conflicts of interest. Our advisors are not tied to any product range and therefore have access to an unrestricted selection of financial products
- Our experience and consistency: Tareno has been around for over 25 years, including an active succession solution and many years of cross-generational support
- Our size: we are small enough for short decision-making processes and flexible adjustments. As one of the 15 largest Swiss asset managers, however, we are large enough to have a solid organisational and financial base
- Our sustainability approach: We are a signatory to the UN PRI and a pioneer in the field of water investments
- Our position as a manager of collective assets with the authorisation of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA
- Our share of women of around 40% (data per end of May 2024)
I already have a house bank. What are the advantages of an additional independent asset manager? Chevron-down
One advantage is the conflict-free handling of products. A financial institution often sells its own products or gives its advisors specifications. Tareno, on the other hand, operates free of restrictions in the entire financial universe.
What's more, our customers pay lower fees overall than with their main bank. We do not have a costly banking licence and have also negotiated special conditions with over banks, which are passed on to the customer on a 1:1 basis.
Another advantage is that Tareno does not take any retrocessions. Our shareholders are active in the operating business and are not additionally remunerated.
How does the relationship between client, bank and asset manager work? Chevron-down
For all matters relating to custody accounts and the bank, the customer's contact person is Tareno's advisor from the very first customer appointment. The customer grants Tareno a management authorisation to make securities investments in her or his name. The bank is merely the custodian bank. A single contact person accompanies you in the long term and is there for all financial matters.
Who can become a customer? Chevron-down
For assets of CHF 1 million or more, it is worth working with an independent asset manager such as Tareno. If your assets are less than this, our investment expertise is available to you via our funds: https://tareno.ch/en/tareno-funds/

Which customer categories does Tareno serve? Chevron-down
Tareno offers investment solutions for private individuals as well as for complex trust and corporate structures and pension, succession and estate planning. Tareno ensures that the client's legal and tax requirements are met and develops customised solutions for asset protection and growth, including cash management.
What does an asset management mandate with Tareno cost me? Chevron-down
The fees charged by Tareno depend on the expense and the size of the assets and average between 0.6% and 1% of the assets.
In addition, there are the costs for account management, transactions and products of the custodian bank or third parties (e.g. for ETFs).
Do I have to pay for an analysis of my financial situation and subsequent financial planning? How much do they cost? Chevron-down
Approximate financial planning has no cost implications if the assets are managed via Tareno. In more complex cases, detailed financial planning makes sense, for example when selling a company or retiring. If you work with financial planning experts, the costs calculated on a time and material basis do not apply. Some custodian banks also cover the costs.
How will I be informed about the current status of the custody account? Chevron-down
Regular reports and updates on the total assets and performance of the portfolio as well as on relevant market developments are provided to our clients physically or electronically at the desired frequency. Our client advisors are of course always available to answer questions and provide advice.
The advisory or asset management fee generally includes everything relating to assets. A surcharge may be charged for special forms or compilations.
We recommend at least one personal meeting per year.
Is the portfolio rebalanced automatically? Chevron-down
In order to maintain the contractually agreed investment strategy, we regularly adjust the portfolio by buying and selling securities.
Can Tareno create consolidations of assets? Chevron-down
Our specialised software solution allows you to consolidate and map financial data from different sources and create comprehensive reports. Consolidation can even take place if your assets are held at different banks. Portfolios that are not managed by us but for which we receive the relevant information can also be integrated. This provides you with a holistic consolidation, financial planning and overview. These functions are particularly useful for companies that need to manage complex financial structures, multiple subsidiaries or diverse investment portfolios.
Is there a difference between return and performance? Chevron-down
