Improved access to clean drinking water in Syria

The overall project involved renovating the water pipes in two Syrian neighborhoods, thereby securing access to clean drinking water for 8,000 people. The impact project was implemented by our project partner Medair and financed by donations from our impact share class as well as two other donors. Tareno’s donation to the project amounts to just under 10% of the total costs.

Replacement of damaged main water pipes in Syria – impact investing with lasting results

Improved access to clean drinking water covers the two districts of Hettin and Tashreen in Deir ez-Zor, Syria. To renovate the water network, pipe trenches were dug on site to the required dimensions and distribution pipes were laid to restore the water supply to the target households. Ten employees of the water authority received training in the operation and maintenance of the completed water infrastructure. In addition, 15 other members of the communities were trained on challenges such as water scarcity, pollution, and hygiene. Around 8,000 people benefit from the renovated water pipes. Each person now has access to around 80 liters of water per day. Tareno’s donation thus enables 750 people to access 60,000 liters of clean water every day.

Project partner

The project was implemented in collaboration with our partner Medair and made possible by donations from the impact share class of the Tareno Water Fund. By repairing severely damaged water pipes, access to clean drinking water was secured. The project thus ensures a long-term drinking water supply for people in the province of Deir-ez-Zor, Syria, who were suffering from a severe drinking water shortage.
