Safe drinking water for various schools in Nepal
Why Nepal?
Many rural regions of Nepal still lack access to safe drinking water. Schools in particular are often inadequately equipped, exposing children and teachers to health risks from contaminated water.
Together with the local partner organization ECCA, the impact share class therefore specifically supports schools in remote regions with water filtration systems and training on safe use.
The focus on schools creates long-term impact:
- Access to clean drinking water in everyday life
- Better hygiene and fewer health risks
- Sustainable knowledge transfer to families and communities
How the project works
Our local partner organization ECCA equips schools in rural regions of Nepal with water filter systems. The water filters with Tulip ceramic candles are manufactured locally and distributed to the selected schools. An important part of the project is the training of pupils and teachers. They learn how to use and maintain the filter systems correctly so that the drinking water supply can be guaranteed in the long term. In addition, instructions are attached directly to the water filters.
In addition to the installation of new water filter systems, the program also includes the maintenance of existing systems. This ensures that existing infrastructure can be used in the long term and that as many people as possible benefit from clean drinking water in the long term.
Key data on our drinking water projects in Nepal
2025
25 different schools and facilities in the districts of Nuwakot, Jajarkot and Dhading are supplied with clean water thanks to this project. In total, around 3,100 people benefit from the plant, which can produce 2,100 liters of clean water per day.
2024
22 different schools and facilities in the districts of Chitwan, Nuwakot, Jajarkot and Bhojpur are supplied with clean water thanks to this project. In total, around 3,400 people benefit from the plant, which can produce 2,100 liters of clean water per day.
2023
At least five different schools in Nepal are supplied with clean water. The water is purified with chlorine from a WATA system from Antenna. In total, around 1,700 people benefit from the plant, which can produce 900 liters of clean water per day.
Our project partner on site
The drinking water projects are implemented together with the Nepalese organization ECCA (Environmental Camps for Conservation Awareness). The long-standing non-profit organization has been committed to environmental education, sustainable development and access to clean drinking water in Nepal for decades.
Thanks to its local roots, ECCA knows the challenges of the affected regions inside out and ensures that the support reaches the areas where it will have the greatest benefit. From the selection of schools and the installation of water filtration systems to training and maintenance, ECCA supports the projects on site.
Financing is provided via the impact share class of the Tareno Global Water Solutions Fund. In this case, 25% of the management fee flows directly into selected drinking water projects. One third of this contribution comes from the investors in the impact share class, while Tareno provides two thirds.
Effect over the years
Since the start of the collaboration with ECCA in 2023, the drinking water program in Nepal has been continuously expanded. Existing projects are being expanded and new schools added to the program. This creates a sustainable impact year after year in places where access to safe drinking water is particularly important.
All projects pursue the same goal: to provide children, teachers and local communities with long-term access to clean and safe drinking water.
